Woods Hole Model Boat Show

The Woods Hole Historical Museum is holding its 12th biennial Model Boat Show on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14. Scale models will be exhibited in buildings along Water Street in Woods Hole, and radio-controlled sailboats will be raced in Eel Pond. There will be a pool on the museum lawn will give children the chance to sail boats that they build from simple kits.
All types and sizes of models are exhibited in the show; some of the models are so small they will fit into a light bulb. Some are classic historic craft, some are military and Coast Guard vessels, others are the latest in fast boat and sail design.
A series of illustrated talks will be presented as part of this show. There will be a special exhibit on ferries.
Saturday, 11AM-noon , John Stoudt, “Historical Milestones in Model Yachting”
Saturday 1-2 PM, Rob Napier , “Researching and Building a Model of the 1877 Down-Easter William H. Conner”
Sunday 11 AM-noon , James Norton, “Saint Columba’s Curragh: the challenge of modeling a leather boat”
Sunday, 1-2 PM, Molly Curran, “New Underwater Vehicles developed in the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Deep Submergence Lab”
All are held in the Woods Hole Public Library.
Admission covers all exhibits and activities over the two days of the show. Admission prices are $15 for an adult; $5 for ages 12 to 17 and for uniformed military; free for children under age 12.
